Shoes. Baby shoes. My children have never been a fan of shoes and I figured I’d fight the battle when they demanded – yes, demanded – to be let out of the carrier and walking with their siblings. Well, that time has come with sweet little Audrey. She has become increasingly vocal about not being carried on her daddy’s back and wanting to walk. So, what’s a mom to do? Find shoes that allow for her to still feel the ground without thick soles and allow for a quick on and off so mommy doesn’t lose her mind! That is where Freshly Picked has entered the picture!
Freshly Picked was founded and created by Susan Petersen in my home state of Utah – Yay! Her inspiration came after she had her son and wanted soft soled shoes but there wasn’t much out there. In 2009, she spent time breaking out the glass of metal window frames and then taking it to the recycle plant for money. Talk about dedication and inspiration.
Susan made $200 from that metal and from there started creating more moccasins! In 2014, she was featured on an episode of Shark Tank. Even though the deal fell apart after the show aired, her business blossomed! Now she has a staff and together they create some pretty fantastic soft soled moccasins!
Freshly Picked sent me a pair of moccasins to review and so off we went to test them out! Toddler girl, moccasins, and a photo shoot later and my daughter is more in love with them than any other pair of shoes she has!
Feel and Fit:
The feel of the leather is so soft. This didn’t concern me but in most cases it would have. Susan knows what she is doing and her company wouldn’t be doing so well if she didn’t. You can tell that quality of material is definitely given a top priority.
The fit is true to the measurement chart they have on their website. Audrey measured out as a size 7 but I chose to go with a size 8. I’m glad I did. It gave her some growing room but doesn’t make her feet look like clown feet.
When it was time to wear them, she slipped them on with ease. Even after a few hours in them, the elastic band that is in the ankle part, showed no marks on her ankles. They have figured out the perfect measurement to ensure that the moccasins stay on but don’t mark up a child’s ankles.
Why I Love Them:
They allow for me to not tie shoes a thousand times while out and about. Not only is it back breaking at times, kids get sick of it too.
They allow a child’s foot to still feel the ground. This aids in walking and developing the foot muscles while still protecting a child’s foot.
They are cute! And this is important. Right moms? We all like our kids to look good. Best thing is these moccasins can be dressed up or dressed down. Winner in my book!
