An alternative to your phone
Our phones are everything. They house our memories, a calculator, notepads, and apps to get things done. Unfortunately, the phone can be a big distraction when we need to get things done. Just think about it, you are sitting down working on a major project, you check your phone for the time and see some notifications. Now you’re distracted. Before you know it, you’ve spent vital time checking your phone rather than working on your project.
It can be a distraction
It is how we get behind and feel overwhelmed. Trust me; I’ve been there, so I decided to do a little experiment by wearing my JORD wood watch and putting my phone away during times that I needed to focus. As a homeschooling mom, blogger, Etsy shop owner, and psychology grad student, time management is key.
Here’s how the test went: For an entire a week, I wore this beautiful watch. During our homeschool hours, my studying, and working on business related items, I would put my phone in another room. The way I was able to check the time was on my wrist.
What I found out:
Our homeschooling days went more smoothly. I was able to get out and about more with the kids because I wasn’t distracted. I wouldn’t be looking at a phone that would take my attention away.
Grad school is hard! There is no doubt about that. The classes are getting harder which requires a little more time on my part. Unfortunately, I do not have hours to spend studying so I must do it in intervals and keep to a strict timetable. Once again, I would study away from my phone but still needed to keep a close eye on the time for the next event of the day which often involved an extracurricular activity for the kids. Being late wasn’t an option.
I relaunched my Etsy shop during this time and in doing so found my time stretched. Making sure that product had been created and was available, pictures just right, materials on hand, boy, it is a lot for one person, but it is something I have thoroughly enjoyed. It was this aspect that took the most focus and every little bit of free time I had. Now I’ll be honest; I did have my phone around for this portion but only to play Netflix. I get lonely in my office, and it is a way for me to rewatch series I’ve enjoyed. I plug my phone in, play Netflix, and get to work. I can check the time right there on my wrist. By doing so, I didn’t get distracted by the phone. I just let the background noise play!
At the end of this experiment, I found that I got more done while adding more to my plate. I was still even able to play my games and interact on social media, so all was not lost. Having a different way to track the time made a world of difference, and I would guess that this would work for anyone else who wants to find those extra minutes in the day.
About the watch
JORD wood watches are fantastic. I was impressed by the smoothness of the wood. It is light weight and doesn’t scratch or pull, and the color selections for men and women are truly divine. There is truly a style to match everyone’s taste and personality. Mine is the Cora Maple and Silver and is ideal for lighter skin tones, but their entire women’s watch line is fantastic!
